Guitar Angel of The Emerald Isle Rory Gallagher

Hendrix was once asked "Whats it like to be the greatest guitarist that ever lived?". He replied "I don't know, you better ask Rory Gallagher that one". I was first turned on to Rory Gallagher by a very close friend, David Rogers, music guru and guitar comrade. He handed me a very worn LP and disc jacket titled, "Against The Grain", which displayed a classic style, 1962 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster in an extremely worn shape with hardly any paint left to show on the body of the guitar. A very well played Stratocaster at that. Later that evening, I slid the record on my turntable and was really blown away as to why I never heard him on the radio. His music is raw, raucous, but accentuated by the subtly of a cool, misty, Celtic rain churned into a pure blues rock and a twist of Celtic folk. Live performance was his specialty as he rode the wave of being a true solo artist dedicated to his music and style for his entire career.
While browsing around, I found the ultimate Rory Gallagher website chock full of videos, photos and great captions of shared experiences with a true guitar Angel. http://www.rorygallagher.com/

A Review of Patti Britt of ArtWanted.com

Welcome to another artist feature.

I recently discovered the work of an artist named Patti Britt. I was immediately enamoured with much of it. Very vivid, some look like Kaleidoscopes, others defy classification but are just stunning.

An example of her stunning work can be found here , if you visit her page, please let her know her work has been reviewed here. (URL's are disabled @ ArtWanted (the site her work is on) but mention the Avant Garde Free Press and tell her to google it.

To Patti if she reads this I say, keep up the magnificent work. I would love to do a 2nd, more in depth review @ a later date.

Sara Deutsch:Review of Another Stunning Artist

Quite accidently I came across another wonderfully gifted artist recently. Her name is Sara Deutsch. She has not been notified that I am writing this review of her work, but I am sure she will not mind. After all, no publicity is bad publicity right?

The backstory

I was browsing artwanted.com which is my daily habit, when on the main page I saw a stunning graphic. When I clicked upon it for more information, I discovered who the artist was. As I continued browsing her work, I came across SEVERAL astounding pieces.

This proved to me (to use my friend Richard's phrase) that she was not a "one trick pony."

Some of my favorites of her pieces are "Mother", and "Angelfire" after seeing her work, it would make ANYONE want to create something.

Update: The artist has now been notified that this review is posted.

Discovered Artist of the Month:Sue Gordon,of ArtWanted.com

I decided to begin a new feature. Each month here @ the AGFP I will be posting about an artist whose work I admire. This is the 1st installment, and the artist's name is Sue Gordon. I discovered this artist whose work is absolutely beautiful to me. It is often simple in it's content, but it is always obvious that she puts her heart into every piece. This widget is courtesy of www.artwanted.com
Feel free to stop in and give Sue feedback on her work. (If you rather not sign up for A.W. you can still post as a guest.)

Stuart Adamson: The Tragic Poet

I first encountered the work of Stuart Adamson through his songwriting masterpiece Shattered Cross.
It was covered by the singer Darrell Scott. Ever since I heard the song I became obsessed with Adamson as a poet.

Like many brilliant poets before him, Adamson was also a tortured soul. They say pain makes good art, but Adamson took this phrase as words to live by. Everything I have heard gives the impression that Adamson had a serious fetish for the booze.

Never one to bash the dead though, I think a person should be remembered more for their successes than their sins. Stuart was born in 1958, a year before my father, maybe that is why I feel a more powerful connection to him than I do to most "celebrities"

Stuart first came to major success with the band Big Country, although according to the ever questionable source Wikipedia, he also founded a band called the skids.

The band that I heard him perform with was the Raphaels, via a youtube video made by a fellow Adamson fan. When I mentioned him to a friend, she complained that his accent made him hard to understand, but I think his accent makes him sound unique.

Sadly, Adamson killed himself in December 2001. He was only 43 I think he had more to contribute to the world of music and that he robbed the world of brilliance.

Here are Stuart's song, along w/Darrell's cover.
